🔄 Deposit Systems at Events: A sustainability success story🌍Are deposit systems effective? Absolutely! At Rubbish Ideas, we've seen first-hand how these systems revolutionise the return and reuse of cups and other food service products in the events industry and beyond. Deposit systems don't just work for reusable products, they can be used to collect disposable products for closed-loop recycling too! Through our venture The Rubbish Project we've worked with numerous events in the Netherlands and Belgium to successfully implement deposit return systems for their recycled cups and to create a circular system for disposable packing. The result? Now with legislation supporting this shift reusable cups, or the closed-loop recycling of disposable cups, has become the norm across the Benelux region and beyond, paving the way for a greener future. ♻️So deposit systems are great, but what type of deposit system is best? How can you get the most out of them? This is something we can help with.1 Question we get asked a lot about is: Cash vs tokens. While cash can be practical, it poses a security risk at larger events, sometimes leading to unlawful activities like 'The Cup Mafia'. Tokens, though safer, come with their own challenge - ensuring they don't become additional waste. 🤔We're also pondering - are we putting too much responsibility on consumers with these schemes? ♻️Scan - Recycle - Win for Re-universe, evian and Wimbledonre-universe who pitched at #CleantechVentureDay this year, is making great strides with its digital recycling solution. 🎾For Wimbledon this summer, evian chose the Re-universe digital #recycling solution, to encourage recycling of its water bottles.Visitors to Wimbledon were invited to scan the unique QR code on the recycling bin which opens up a web-app, and then scan the barcode on their evian drinks containers which captures the recycle.Each time an evian drinks container was recycled through the Rewards4Waste platform, the user was entered into a draw, to win a pair of tickets to the Wimbledon 2023 Women’s Finals.Re-universe's work with evian will not end with Wimbledon, the company plans to work with them in the future to explore the benefits of Digital Recycling and Digital DRS.The Waste Management Software Market size was valued at $9.7 Billion in 2022 and is projected to reach $16.9 Billion by 2030. 🚶♂️ Walking the walk 🚶♂️ 😬 Yesterday I was called out on a DM for my posts about plastic pollution, the person (perhaps partially right) said that I was quick to raise the issues but never proposed solutions. I say partially right, because I do tend to raise the issues that I feel strongly about, and, I don't tend to speak about what I am actually doing. This is part of my ongoing personal development to become more comfortable talking about the great work we are doing at Veribli, Voittaa and Reneue, all of which address the issues I raise in one way or another. I see the future, and the solution to the plastic pollution issue in a true circular economy, not as many co-opt the term as simply recycling, but a new economy of reusable, refillable containers that are used many times, being repaired and repurposed throughout and then, only at the very end of life, being recycled. The problem with this, as Dame Ellen MacArthur says, is that in a circular economy you must take into account and incentivise every stakeholder, giving them reason to participate. The simple message of 'because you are doing good' isn't enough, the systems must make their life easier, better, more cost effective and dare I say it, more profitable. 👉 At Veribli we are addressing this very issue, my RFID technology enables instant and direct connections to be made between customers and brands, an environment where real engagement can happen that is to the benefit of both the brand and the customer. On 18 March it was World Recycling Day. Our ambition is that every capsule used to brew a great cup of#Perlacoffee, will be fully recycled.With 7 other coffee companies, we recently joined forces through the Coffee Capsule Recycling Netherlands Association -Vereniging Koffie Capsule Recycling Nederland(KCR-NL) - to ensure that a significantly larger amount of aluminum and plastic coffee capsules are recycled. KCR-NL achieves this by investing in technologies at waste processors to extract coffee capsules from residual waste through sorting.This allows used coffee capsules to be fully recycled in a consumer-friendly manner.
